Welcome to the Nidus Center for Scientific Enterprise website! The
center was established to assure the commercial success of start-ups
and early stage life science companies. If you are a potential client
of Nidus Center or a potential valuable resource for our clients we
are interested in talking with you.
Nidus Center is a very unique business incubator that provides high
value-added services and resources to its clients. Most of you who are
first time entrepreneurs will perceive that the primary benefit of a
center such as ours is the tangible direct dollars and cents benefits
of lower rent, cheaper professional service etc. In fact, those of us
who have been in the entrepreneurial assistance business for some time
know that it is the intangible benefits we bring you that are the most
critical to your success. Services such as business planning assistance
and providing a customized business guide, advisory boards, mentoring,
negotiations and management building assistance, intellectual property
building and the Nidus network will be the most important critical factors
in your success.
Although we are a very young organization, we are confident in our
ability to build a top ranked innovation center that will redefine business
incubation. Our belief is predicated on:
- my experience running two very successful incubators in Boulder,
Colorado and Scottsdale, Arizona
- our blue ribbon Board of Directors and Advisory Council and their
networks
- our partner organizations (i.e. Donald Danforth Plant Science Center,
Washington University, Missouri Botanical Gardens, Monsanto, University
of Missouri-Columbia, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and
Purdue University),
- our unique and powerful services program
- our environmentally sensitive "green facility"
- access to world class information resource center, fitness center
and on-site child care facility
- other resources we have assembled to assist early stage companies.
We feel this creates the environment most conducive to the success
of start-up life science companies.
One of the critical factors in the success of our companies is the
availability of seed and early stage capital for their development.
One of our primary activities is facilitating access to those investments.
We have established relationships with national and international venture
capital firms. Some of these firms are represented on our Board of Directors
and Advisory Council.
Nidus Center is completely independent of Monsanto with no residual
requirements on client companies. We hope that our client companies
will build collaborative relationships with our partner organizations
and others including possible competitors of Monsanto.
I hope this has answered some basic questions about Nidus Center, and
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Robert J. Calcaterra
